Who We Are

Fondazione Regionale per la Ricerca Biomedica (FRRB) is a private law institution established by Lombardy Region in October 2011.

Its aim is to promote and enhance scientific research in the field of Life Sciences, particularly in the biomedical field.

FRRB represents one of the main strategic platforms for boosting progress, research, development and innovation in hospitals, universities and research centres focused on biomedical research and located in Lombardy Region.

Its “raison d’être” is to serve as support for the implementation of the regional healthcare research policy, in order to place Lombardy regional system in a leading position in Europe in this field. The Foundation also aims to invest local and European resources in innovative basic and translational research projects to generate positive impact on the local healthcare eco-system and citizens.

FRRB has recently obtained the renewal of the ISO 9001:2015 quality certification which will be valid for the next 3 years until January 2026. Since 2017, FRRB’s management system has been recognized as a system compliant with standards of excellence. This system was adopted in order to improve the overall performance of the organization, with continuous monitoring of risks and opportunities, a fundamental prerequisite for responding more and more carefully and effectively to its statutory mission.

The new certificate, issued by the company RINA Services S.p.A., partner of the international network IQNet, which guarantees an internationally recognized standard, has confirmed the following field of application “Promotion of competitive call for proposals for the selection of biomedical innovative research projects; management of the evaluation, monitoring and control processes of the granted projects. Planning, preparation, submission, management and coordination of strategic European projects in the field of life science”.

The renewal and maintenance of the UNI EN ISO 9001 certification is guaranteed every year thanks to:

• Continuous training and information provided to FRRB staff;
• Participatory management of system documentation;
• The provision of an annual internal audit;
• Monitoring of any non-conformities and adoption of corrective actions.

In September 2018, FRRB has also adopted its own Quality Policy.

FRRB summarizes in its FRRB Ethics Code the values and principles with which it acts and whose respect it requires.
