FRRB publishes the new regional call for proposals “UNMET MEDICAL NEEDS” aimed at implementing biomedical research projects that seek to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration on specific topics.
In line with the recommendations of the Lombardy Region’s Directorate-General for Welfare and its Scientific Committee, FRRB’s new call for collaborative research proposals is intended as a tool to respond to unmet medical needs in specific areas:
- Cardiology
- Neurology
- Rare tumors
- Rare diseases (non-oncological)
- Antimicrobial resistance.
As with previous regional calls for proposals, each project must be carried out in Lombardy and fit into a context of personalized medicine, demonstrating the potential to transfer the results of the funded research to the Regional Health System, taking into account the ethical, social, and health implications of the research results.
FRRB, which has always been attentive to gender equality and equal opportunities, has established for this call the requirement that at least one female PI be present within the proposing partnerships. Furthermore, in order to support young talent, it will reward the involvement of young Principal Investigators (under 40) with the awarding of additional points during the evaluation process.
The recipients of the grant are partnerships composed of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 entities chosen from among ASSTs, Health Protection Agencies (ATS), Regional Emergency Agencies (AREU), public and private IRCCS, universities, and research organizations, all with operational headquarters in Lombardy.
The role of lead entity may be assumed by an ASST, an ATS, or a public or private IRCCS.
Maximum grant available: €1,250,000 per individual project lasting 36 months. Each partner must bear at least 15% of the total project costs.
